Production plant R|M: Euromed

Created in 1971 by German Madaus Pharma to meet the demands of combining standardized extracts and natural active principles for the development of phitopharmaceutical products, Euromed became part of the Rottapharm|Madaus group in 2007.

Euromed is currently one the most advanced plants in the production of natural extracts and active principles made from plants for the pharmaceutical, dermocosmesis and nutraceuticals industry.

The plant, located at Mollet del Vallés near Barcelona, covers a surface of almost 8,000 m², complemented by another 18,000 m² containing warehouses and storage of raw materials.

Euromed currently boasts an annual production of over 3,000 tons of pharmaceutical active principles (API's) and herbal extracts, produced according to International Regulations and Pharmacopeia.

The acquired phitopharmaceutical knowledge, together with the constant focus on research and innovation, are Euromed’s strategical strong points.

All natural raw materials are selected with rigour and attention. The extraction of the active principles is carried out with an innovative method developed by Euromed itself. A method which - through an attentive monitoring of the every single phase of production and thanks to the constant updating of the technologies utilized – vouches for high quality standards.

All this is done while also tracking the origin of the materials that are the foundation of Euromed’s production.

The selection of raw material is strictly done following the guidelines of GAP (Good Agricultural Practice). Once the botanic species are singled out, tests and chemical and microbiological analyses are carried out, according to International Regulations and Pharmacopoeias, to certify that they are free of pesticides, heavy metals or other extraneous substances and to establish the purity of the active principles. From there, the various natural substances have different destinations according to their characteristics in order to reach a single goal: to extract active principles beneficial to health that will be the raw materials of phitopharmaceutics and phitocosmetics. Special care is also reserved for the conservation and storage of raw materials, so that their properties and purity are secured in every phase of production.

Quality comes first

The controls on raw materials carried out by Euromed are mainly based on GAP (Good Agricultural Practice) guidelines while GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) regulations are followed for the production processes.

Abiding by required standard regulations and ISO 9001 Certification represents only a starting point for the Total Quality Management System of Euromed.

The controls on raw materials, on production processes and on analyses of end products – all carried out in accordance with International Regulations or International Pharmacopeia – vouch for the quality and the tracking of the origin of materials.

In order to reach this goal, Euromed utilizes the most advanced technologies and tools for identification and quantifying: TLC, HPTLC, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, HPLC-MS, HPLC with UV/VIS, RI, fluorescence, ELS detectors, GC-MS, GC-FID, etc…
