Research | Responsability in research, our continous mission
Rottapharm|Madaus’ first responsibility is health: a right that the group wants to defend, guaranteeing easy access to the available treatments. Satisfying the needs of patients and consumers, treating the most widespread of pathologies, reducing suffering to improve people’s quality of life; these are the goals that Rottapharm|Madaus pursues with its continuous investment in research.
Research in the pharmaceutical field
800 million dollars: this is the cost a pharmaceutical company must absorb in the process of
the development of a new drug (source: Impact Report, vol. 5, n. 3, May-June 2003). Resulting in
high costs, but also uncertainty in the final product; complex and lengthy processes (between 10
and 15 years) hamper research in the pharmaceutical field.
Thanks to its flexibility and a vocation for innovation, Rottapharm|Madaus has always relied
on the excellence of results in research and development. So far, more than 5,000 specific
molecular hits, over 800 patents and 9 original drugs have been synthesized in the R&D centers
of Rottapharm|Madaus. Currently 11 molecules are being clinically developed by Rottapharm|Madaus,
subdivided in the different
phases of clinical testing.
Research in Rottapharm|Madaus
100 researchers work daily in Rotta Research Laboratorium, the research and development
centre located at the headquarters of the Group, in Monza. In addition to these, there are about
ten researchers specialized in the area of dermocosmetics and nutraceutics, at the laboratories of
Confienza.
