R&D

Rotta Research Laboratorium is the R&D
division of Rottapharm Group. The group was created in 1961 and the process of research and discovery of new drugs has been very active since then (the first patent was indeed filed in 1961). The research activities of the company have been based on the development of new, original and patented
drugs in different therapeutic fields, according to three different approaches: the discovery of new chemical entities with an innovative mechanism of action, the development of products derived from natural compounds having peculiar pharmacological potential and, the development of transdermal delivery systems of known medications available in other pharmaceutical forms. The group's traditional research fields in the Gastrointestinal/Digestive area and in the Osteo-Articular area, have
been joined soon by an extensive expertise in the fields of Hormone Replacement Therapy/Women's Health/Gynaecology and, lately, in the Cardiovascular, Respiratory Tract and Central Nervous System areas.
Up to date, the intense research activities has generated over 5000 molecular hits, 287 patents and 19 new drugs.
