Rottapharm is leader in the therapeutic field of osteoarthritis thanks to the original development of Glucosamine Sulfate, the salt of the amino-monosaccaride glucosamine.
Clinical studies carried out so far have highlighted the clear superiority of the drug compared to placebo and no significant difference compared to anti-inflammatories in the control of the symptoms. Moreover, Glucosamine Sulfate is the only drug proved able to bring about favourable changes in the joint structures affected by osteoarthritis.
In the same field, the company developed a few years ago the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), Proglumetacin, and indolic derivative of high anti-inflammatory potency and good gastrointestinal safety due to its antisecretive and cytoprotective activity.
